The Traveler's Death Wish

or, Song of the Wanderer

I was once a traveler, too,
So to the traveler's code be true.

Take nothing till you make a pyre;
This lifeless body set afire
That living flames may brightly burn,
Take back my borrowed heat in turn.
My ashes thus return to earth,
From whence they came before my birth.
But let my eyes to heaven gaze
And sight those points of starry blaze
While sparks, like spirit, skyward soar
That I might wander ever more.
